Sheedy Family Chiropractic was established in July of 1957. Following the completion of his education at Palmer College of Chiropractic, Dr. Michael Sheedy was traveling from Davenport to Chicago with his brother when they happened upon the small town of Sycamore, Illinois. Something about Sycamore stood out in Dr. Mikes mind, so on the way back home he decided to stop at a Chiropractic office located on Rt. 23.
During that visit, the current Chiropractor at the office offered to sell his practice to Dr. Mike, as he was planning on moving out of state.
Dr. Mike went back to Davenport and talked to his wife about relocating the family to Sycamore. Within the next couple days he was packing their belongings and moving his wife and two small kids to their new home in Sycamore. At that time, they had no idea that Dr. Mike would be beginning a 55+ year journey of improving the health of Sycamore.
In August of 2011, after 54 years, Dr. Mike retired his Chiropractic career, but not before inspiring multiple generations to follow in his footsteps. Dr. Paula Sheedy (Dr. Mom) was one of those to be inspired by Dr. Mike. She opened Sheedy Family Chiropractic of Davenport in 1986. Her path to Chiropractic healing began after Dr. Mike treated her daughter following a very traumatic fall. When the power of the Chiropractic adjustment helped heal her daughter, she knew that she had found her calling. Knowing that Dr. Mike completed Palmer Chiropractic College with two small children, Dr. Paula knew that she could do the same and enrolled in Palmer with the intent to pass along the gift of healing that she received to others.
When Dr. Paula completed Palmer Chiropractic College she had a family of eight — her husband Larry (nephew of Dr. Mike) and six kids. This is how the nickname “Dr. Mom” was born, as was the next generation of Chiropractors in the family. Two of Dr. Paula’s sons, Zac and TJ, followed in the footsteps set forth by Dr. Mike.
Dr. TJ Sheedy graduated from Palmer in 2008, becoming the family’s 32nd Chiropractor. Following soon after, TJ’s younger brother Zac graduated from Palmer as the 33rd Chiropractor in the family. Dr. TJ now works with Dr. Mom at Sheedy Family Chiropractic in Davenport.
While attending Palmer, Dr. Zac met Dr. Morgan and they began dating. Little did they know the two would soon be married and continuing the family tradition of the Chiropractic healing arts in Sycamore!
In 2009, Dr. Zac and Dr. Morgan finished their formal education and relocated to Sycamore. Dr. Zac began working with Dr. Mike, while Dr. Morgan, now the 36th Chiropractor to join the family, took a two-year job as one of the lead Chiropractors at a Chiropractic rehabilitation office in Rockford.
In April 2012, Dr. Morgan joined Dr. Zac in their practice. They relocated the office to its current location on Prairie Drive in Sycamore. With the relocation came a new name–Sycamore Integrated Health– as well expanded services. Now, Sycamore Integrated Health offers structural rehabilitation, massage, as well as diet and nutritional consulting.
